SAN FRANCISCO — A dehydrated coyote pup died Thursday after being rescued by California firefighters.
The coyote was about 6 weeks old, said Colleen Crowley, spokeswoman for the Peninsula Humane Society. & SPCA.
Photos from the July 4 rescue on social media show a big-eared puppy bundled up and receiving bowls of food at a San Mateo County fire station.
The coyote was found in an unincorporated area of the county south of San Francisco.
Cal Fire CZU firefighters “saw this puppy running with its mother, but this time, the mother was nowhere in sight. The small animal seemed disoriented and was staggering,” said the post accompanying the photos.
They gave the cub water and chicken until rescuers from the humane society were able to take away the little coyote, who was dehydrated and malnourished.
Crowley said the cub could barely open its eyes.
