19-year-old suspect arrested in shooting death of teenager in Lubbock

A 19-year-old was arrested Friday night in connection with a shooting that left a 16-year-old dead on July 1 in north Lubbock. Christopher Acevdedo was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center after being arrested shortly before 7 p.m. Friday on a manslaughter charge in connection with the murder of 16-year-old Rudy Romo Ramirez, according to a statement from Lubbock police. Officers responded around 12:44 a.m. July 1 to the 2500 block of Cornell Street on a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located Romo-Ramirez suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. During the initial course of the investigation, it appears that Romo-Ramirez was with a large group of individuals when the shots were fired. The individuals in the group who were present at the time of the shooting fled the scene before the police arrived. After several days of investigation by the Lubbock Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit and the Lubbock Texas Anti-Gang Center, investigators were able to obtain sufficient evidence. to secure a warrant for Acevedo. He was taken into custody around 6:58 p.m. Friday in the 800 block of Main Street without incident. He was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center where he is being held on $300,000 bond. It was not immediately clear how authorities linked Romo-Ramirez to the shooting or what prompted the violence while the investigation is ongoing.
