Five people, including the suspect, were killed and three others were injured after a shooting Saturday morning in Northern Kentucky.

Officers responded to multiple calls of an active shooter at a residence in Florence, Kentucky, around 3 a.m.

Four victims were pronounced dead at the scene and three others were transported to a local hospital and are in stable condition, according to the Florence Police Department.

Missy Rittinger, Boone County coroner, confirmed that all four victims were adults – two women and two men.

The suspect, who Rittinger said was an adult male, had already fled the scene in a car when police arrived. Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but he continued driving, which led to a chase. The suspect ended up leaving the road and falling into a ditch.

Police found the suspect with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

An initial investigation revealed the suspect acted alone and there is no threat to the public, the Florence Police Department said. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office confirmed its deputies responded along with Florence officers last night, but is not conducting a separate investigation.

Florence is located about 12 miles southwest of Cincinnati, Ohio.
