NEW YORK — Due to shock hazards, a California company is recalling nearly 1 million power adapters sold with sound systems marketed to help babies and young children sleep.
The plastic surrounding the AC power adapter supplied with some of Hatch’s 1st-generation Rest speakers may come loose when removing the product from the outlet, leaving its prongs exposed, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said. This increases the risk of electric shock.
There have been 19 reports that the plastic casing around the adapter came loose, including two cases of consumers receiving a small electric shock, the CPSC said in its Wednesday recall. to perceive.
The recall is specific to power adapters supplied by Jiangsu Chenyang Electron Co., Hatch said in a company announcement, adding that it is no longer purchasing its products from Jiangsu Chenyang.
Hatch, based in Palo Alto, California, also noted that the problem is only with the adapter that comes with the sleep machines, not the device itself. “Once a replacement power adapter is issued, the 1st generation Hatch Rest device can safely continue to be used,” the company wrote.
Meanwhile, consumers who have faulty power adapters are urged to stop using them. The now recalled adapters, manufactured in China, can be identified by the model number: CYAP05 050100U.
The adapters were sold with 1st generation Rest sound machines on Hatch.co, as well as major retailers including Target and Walmart, between January 2019 and September 2022. Some were also sold on Amazon until May 2024. The machines They produce white noise or lullabies to help babies and young children sleep and also have features including a night light.
An estimated 919,400 of them were purchased in the US and more than 44,000 in Canada. Hatch is offering a free replacement adapter to affected customers and says it is contacting all registered owners directly.
