France investigates Marine Le Pen and National Rally for FRAUD after far-right defeat to far-left in shocking elections

French prosecutors today launched an investigation into the “illegal financing” of Marine Le Pen and her far-right National Rally party.

This comes after its shock defeat in the country’s general elections, which saw the left-wing coalition deliver a last-minute tactical blow to the right.

Judicial sources in Paris confirmed on Tuesday that they have opened a criminal inquiry related to Le Pen’s bid to become president of France in 2022.

One said: “A judicial investigation was opened following a report to the courts by the National Campaign Accounts and Political Financing Commission.”
