French prosecutors today launched an investigation into the “illegal financing” of Marine Le Pen and her far-right National Rally party.
This comes after its shock defeat in the country’s general elections, which saw the left-wing coalition deliver a last-minute tactical blow to the right.

One said: “A judicial investigation was opened following a report to the courts by the National Campaign Accounts and Political Financing Commission.”
