Harvey Weinstein faces investigation for “additional violent sexual assaults,” New York prosecutors say.

At a hearing in New York on Tuesday, prosecutor Nicole Blumberg said they will seek a new indictment, adding that additional assaults allegedly committed in Manhattan were still within the statute of limitations to be charged as crimes.

The 72-year-old film producer’s historic conviction in New York in 2020 led to him receiving a 23-year prison sentence and fueled a global #MeToo movement, but in April he was overturned by the state’s highest court.

A new trial has not yet been announced.

The original hearing was failed. had been harmed by the judge’s “egregious” inappropriate decisionsincluding the decision to allow women to testify about allegations that were not part of the case.

Weinstein has denied having non-consensual encounters with anyone.

Speaking on Tuesday, Weinstein’s lawyer, Arthur Aidala, said it was unfair for prosecutors to try to add additional victims to the case after the conviction was overturned.

Weinstein has remained behind bars as he was also convicted in Los Angeles in 2022 of another rape, for which he was sentenced to 16 years in prison. He is too appealing against this sentence.

Just a few days after the ruling was overturned, Weinstein was taken to the hospitaland his lawyer described him as “kind of a disaster health-wise” but still “sharp as a tack” mentally.

Weinstein has had heart problems, diabetes, sleep apnea and eye problems for some time, and was in “constant pain,” according to Aidala.
