SIR Keir Starmer sent a strong message against evil Vladimir Putin as he arrived in the US for his first NATO summit.

The newly elected British prime minister is set to meet with Joe Biden and other European leaders in a bid to strengthen the alliance in an increasingly hostile world.

En route to the United States, Sir Keir joked that the defense and security of Britain, as well as that of its allies, would remain his top priority.

The Labor leader, who took over Downing Street on Friday, said he believes NATO countries will “guarantee” “Trump-proof” military aid to Ukraine to fuel its war efforts against tyrant Putin.

He told reporters: “On the question of how do we demonstrate that commitment here at this summit, given that there are elections in America later this year, I think that is very important at this summit, and I think there is a real opportunity for true unity.

“It’s the largest group of countries in NATO, together with the additions we have and the package we seek to move forward, it goes beyond the support that has been given before and will be secured, I hope, at this NATO conference.”

Sir Keir will now try to strike a deal with NATO allies to support Ukraine as much as possible – before Trump becomes the next US president.

Trump – who thinks NATO has become obsolete – could drastically reduce US aid to Ukraine.

There is also a chance that Trump will withdraw the US from the military alliance, leaving Europe in a hostile situation against the evil Putin.

Sir Keir also issued a strong warning to Russia following the “appalling” raid on the children’s cancer hospital that killed at least 41 people.

He said: “My message is very, very clear.

“This NATO summit is an opportunity for allies to come together, to strengthen their resolve, especially in light of this terrible attack, against Russian aggression.”

In the US, Sir Keir will tell NATO’s 75th anniversary meeting that he is determined to stand up to our adversaries.

The prime minister is expected to say at the summit – his first trip abroad in office – that increased spending will safeguard the alliance.

Sir Keir said: “There is no more important duty for me as Prime Minister than keeping the people of our country safe.

“At a time when we face multiple threats internally and externally, we must be sure that we are ready to defend ourselves.

“That’s why I have immediately ordered a major review that will secure Britain’s defenses for the future.

“Working with our most important partners around the world, our Strategic Defense Review will ensure the UK sends a clear message to those who seek to undermine peace and democracy: they will not succeed.”

The Prime Minister will make it clear to his fellow leaders that he is determined to ensure the UK is a “leading defense actor” on the world stage – highlighting that Western allies will “triumph over tyranny”.

TRUMP VS NATO

Keir’s remarks came when he was asked whether NATO allies could “Trump proof” any deal to support Ukraine.

A dark shadow now hangs over NATO, as the chances of Donald Trump returning as US president are more likely than ever – especially after Joe Biden’s dismal performance in the recent presidential debate.

And it is likely that Trump could severely cut defense aid to Ukraine and withdraw his support for NATO.

The weakening of NATO is one of Putin’s greatest desires, since the bestial union of the US, Europe and Canada has deterred Soviet and Russian aggression for seven decades.

Colonel Hamish de Bretton-Gordon told The Sun that the US abandoning its NATO allies would be “the worst-case scenario” and would “encourage Vladimir Putin to move into Europe”.

He said: “Without the US, NATO is greatly weakened, although the arrival of Finland and Sweden is a small compensation.

“But the message it would send to Putin is terrible and would encourage Putin to put more pressure on Ukraine and, ultimately, Europe.

“At least the UK and France still have the nuclear deterrent that will give Putin something to think about.

“If this scenario appears likely, the UK and other European NATO countries need to quickly rearm and hopefully be prepared to put troops on the ground in Ukraine to stop Russian advances westward.”

Britain will stand by Ukraine ‘as long as necessary’

By HARRY COLE in Odessa

PUTIN must have no doubt that “Britain under the Labor Party” will continue to be “Ukraine’s staunchest friend”, declared the new Defense Secretary.

John Healey yesterday embraced hero President Volodymyr Zelensky in war-torn Odessa as he promised that all additional military aid promised in April will be delivered within 100 days of Labour’s “guaranteed” seizure of power.

He insisted that the new government is “fully committed” to increasing UK defense spending to 2.5% of GDP, but that “Britain’s defense starts in Ukraine”.

Healey arrived at the Black Sea port shortly after Sir Keir Starmer’s first Cabinet meeting, as a clear signal to the Kremlin that, far from backpedaling, UK support would be “intensified and accelerated”.

He told The Sun: “At every stage since Putin launched his full-scale invasion, we have supported all military aid… the extra funding has had our full support in the opposition, we will now hand it over to the government.”

And in a direct message to the Russian tyrant, he warned: “Putin expects Western nations to lose patience and lose resolve, he must know that Britain under the Labor Party will stand by Ukraine for as long as it takes to win.” .

“We will stand up to Russian aggression and we will pursue him for his war crimes.”

During his first official visit to Ukraine, which took place 48 hours after his appointment, Healey said it was time to “step up” the “special leadership” Britain has already demonstrated since Putin invaded Ukraine in 2022.

Britain has pledged up to £3 billion in assistance to Ukraine this year, including desperately needed missiles, ammunition and vehicles.

He said his “first action” upon arriving at the Ministry of Defense on Friday “was to ask ‘what else can I do to help, how can we accelerate what we have already announced?’”
