A British man has died in Spain after he and his wife were allegedly hit by a drunk driver outside their hotel.
The couple were returning to their hotel on Tuesday night just after 11pm when a car hit them as they crossed a road.
The 50-year-old tourist died in hospital and his 48-year-old wife remains in serious condition.
After running over the couple, the driver fled the scene, but was later captured by local police.
He was found to be more than three times over the legal alcohol limit for driving.
The man is also believed to be driving without a driver’s license and is now facing a charge of reckless homicide along with a number of existing driving offences.
The British couple were on holiday in Los Narejos, part of the village of Los Alcázares in southern Spain.
They were staying at the Hotel Costa Narejos.
The couple’s identities were not revealed.
