But the bumbling commander-in-chief, who quickly developed a reputation for painful public mistakes, insisted that will not happen.

Biden Mistakenly Called Ukrainian Leader Zelensky ‘President Putin’ on Thursday

At the end of a crisis NATO Summit in Washington DC this week Biden gave a speech where he introduced Ukrainian President Zelensky as “President Putin”.

The offensive confusion quickly drew gasps throughout the room, filled with leaders and press from around the world.

Zelensky has been working to protect Ukraine against a brutal attack led by Russian dictator Putin for more than two years.

Marked the the latest in a series of mistakes made by Biden, 81, was ridiculed as even his senior Democratic colleagues are calling on him to resign.

Now, it is thought that even former President Barack Obama is maneuvering behind the scenes to get him out of the race.

After eight years of working together as president and second-in-command, Obama privately expressed concerns about Biden’s chances in the 2024 election, CNN reports.

Meanwhile, party members are reportedly pressuring Obama and Democrat Nancy Pelosi to speak out and tell Biden he needs to drop out.

Reports emerged last week about an anonymous document titled “Free From What Happened: Kamala’s Case.”

Shared among Democrats, it lays out a detailed plan to replace Biden with Vice President Kamala Harris.

Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Biden was asked if he would give his blessing to fellow Democrats if they decided to shift their support to another candidate.

The issue concerned an official selection process for the Democratic presidential candidate, which will be finalized at the August convention.

He said: “They are free to do whatever they want.

“Tomorrow, if I suddenly show up at the convention and everyone says we want someone else, that’s the democratic process,” he admitted.

But the president vowed: “That won’t happen.”

Despite growing concerns about Biden’s ability, he is at this point the only recognized candidate and is therefore likely to remain the Democratic nominee unless that changes.

It would have to change before the August convention, when the party’s official candidate is chosen.

Thursday’s press conference – considered the most important of his 52-year political career – was the President’s attempt to quell concerns about his ability to run and win again.

He spoke to the press for about an hour and insisted “I have to finish this job” when pressed by reporters.

Just hours after Zelensky’s mistake, his attempts to stand his ground may have been overshadowed.

He also confused Kamala with former President Donald Trump, telling a journalist, “I would not have chosen Vice President Trump to be vice president if she was not qualified.”

Speaking to a large crowd on Thursday, Biden said: “Now I want to turn the floor over to the President of Ukraine, who has as much courage as determination. Ladies and gentlemen, President Putin.”

He tried to quickly correct course, saying, “I’m going to defeat President Putin, President Zelensky. I’m so focused on defeating Putin,” but the damage was done.

A group of Biden’s closest advisors and advisers are reportedly convinced that he will have to withdraw, which New York Times reports.

The newspaper spoke to three people familiar with the sensitive matter, who said Biden’s group of colleagues has been trying to find ways to convince him to step aside.

Concerns about Biden’s mental fitness reached a new level after a poor performance during his first presidential debate against Trump a few weeks ago.

In an attempt to save his reputation, he told ABC that “only the Lord Almighty” could make him quit the race.

Days ago he did too mistakenly called herself a “black woman” during a radio interview.

The president also seemed forget the name of Sir Keir Starmer after he became the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

CNN spoke to top House Democrats, who considered Kamala a much safer alternative for the upcoming November race.

A leader of a large Democratic group, which is historically skeptical of Harris’ ability to succeed, said: “He’s in very bad shape, but I’ve also had conversations with Democrats about her from some important groups who have been skeptical in the past who believe that everyone will support her if she is the nominee.”

How could Biden be removed from the race?

Calls for Joe Biden to end his re-election campaign have increased since his poor performance on the night of the presidential debate on June 27.

After the debate, concerns about the 81-year-old president’s cognitive health were once again a pressing topic among the media and his allies in the Democratic Party.

What did Joe Biden say about his future in the race?

  • Biden has remained defiant and rejected calls for him to step aside in the upcoming presidential election.
  • The Biden administration was forced to deny reports that the president confided in a close ally that he was considering withdrawing from the race.
  • In a July 5 interview with ABC News, Biden said that “no one is more qualified” to win the race than him, adding that only the “Lord Almighty” could convince him to resign.
  • On July 8, Biden sent a scathing letter to DNC members of Congress who called on him to resign.
  • “I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to defeating Donald Trump,” the president wrote.
  • Biden began attacking “elites” in a live interview with MSNBCdaring any challenger to run against him.

How could Joe Biden be removed from the vote?

  • Since the June 27th debate night, a growing number of congressional Democrats have called on Biden to end his re-election campaign.
  • So far, five of the DNC’s 213 members of Congress have publicly called for Biden to drop out of the race.
  • As Biden continues to emphasize his status in the upcoming election, many are wondering whether 25th Amendment should be used to expel him.

What is the 25th Amendment?

  • The 25th Amendment to the Constitution states that the vice president will replace the president if he dies in office or resigns or if members of the president’s cabinet declare that the president is unable to discharge the duties of his office.
  • Labor Secretary Julie Su, who would need to invoke the 25th Amendment, called the idea “absurd.”
