Alec Baldwin’s manslaughter case has been dismissed following a motion filed by his defense team accusing prosecutors of concealing ammunition evidence.

After a day of shock in court, during which the special prosecutor appeared as a witness, the actor broke down in tears when the judge made his decision and dismissed the case.

Baldwin66 years old, had always denied the charge of involuntary manslaughter for the shooting death of the cinematographer. Halyna Hutchinsmaintaining that he did not pull the trigger of the gun and that others on the New Mexico set of the western film Rust were responsible for the gun’s safety checks.

According to the prosecution, he had behaved recklessly during rehearsals, playing “pretend with a real weapon” and violating “fundamental firearms safety rules.”

But the defense team argued that was not the case: that Baldwin was “an actor, he acted” and “did not commit a crime.”

Now, nearly three years after Hutchins’ death, the case against him has been dismissed and Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer has said it cannot be refiled.
