Atlanta police are investigating after several stolen bags were found discarded in the woods.

A woman told Channel 2’s Elizabeth Rawlins that her purse was taken from her car in Chastain Park on Thursday, but she was able to track it with a tracking device she had inside.

The woman told Channel 2 Action News that once she found her purse, and more things thrown into the woods with her, she not only called the Atlanta Police Department to find out what she found, she even waited for them to arrive.

She told Rawlins that what started as a fun afternoon with her kids at the park turned into a nightmare.

“When I got back to the car, I realized my purse wasn’t there,” the woman said.

She didn’t want to show her face on camera because she says her entire life was inside the bag, from her laptop to her credit cards and social security numbers. Some of this information has not yet been recorded.

“Between last night and this morning, I was able to track down locations,” she said Channel 2 Action News.

The woman told Rawlins that she was able to track her purse through her laptop and headphones to a wooded location nearly 10 miles away in northwest Atlanta.

“He goes there, finds my bag, not just my bag, but several others with his private and personal belongings,” said the woman.

At the scene, the woman found bags, bags and backpacks, which appeared to have been stolen and discarded in the same location.

After calling APD several times but unable to get any officers to go into the woods, she called Channel 2 Action News.

“When they received your contact, the police officer who appeared was very alert and seemed to be going to do something,” said the woman.

Finally, the woman was able to hand over the stolen bags to the police and hopes that this will not only bring closure to her case, but also to others.

“You wake up every day, go to work, what for? For people to come and take all this away from you? she said.

Police don’t recommend playing detective like this woman and mother did, but having tracking devices can certainly be helpful to investigators.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call APD.
