FBI renews request for information in unsolved 1994 murder of Rochester teenager

The FBI is renewing its plea for the public’s help in the ongoing investigation into the murder of a Pittsburgh-area teenager as the 30th anniversary of her disappearance approaches.

Sarah Boehm, of Rochester Township, was 14 years old when her parents reported her missing to Beaver County authorities on July 14, 1994. Her remains were found “out of the ordinary” in the woods of Berlin Reservoir, located in Ohio. state park about two hours from Sarah’s home on November 4, 1994. The decomposed remains were not identified as Sarah until 2003.

The FBI wants to know how Sarah ended up murdered in Ohio. An FBI video of Sarah’s case states that investigators do not know whether she was killed in Pennsylvania and taken to Ohio or taken to Ohio and killed there before her body was left in the park.

The agency also thinks her case may be linked to 1994 murder of an Ohio teenager.

According to the FBI, Kathryn Menendez, 17, of Portage County, Ohio, disappeared on August 25, 1994. Her nude body was found several days later on an oil road near the Berlin Reservoir – about 800 meters from where Sarah’s remains. were found in the same park. Authorities determined that Kathryn was strangled to death.

The FBI is looking for information about Karthryn’s murder.

“I can’t believe whoever did this kept it to themselves all these years. I think it’s pure human nature – people talk. And if someone has spoken to someone and they know something, I implore you to call the FBI,” Special Agent Thomas Carter said in the video about Sarah’s case.

The FBI says it is working closely with local authorities in Ohio and Beaver County as it investigates the two deaths.

Anyone with information about what happened to Sarah or Kathryn is asked to call their local police department, call the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or submit a tip online.
