Famous fitness presenter Richard Simmons has died at the age of 76.

Simmons was found unconscious at his home in Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles, California, according to two law enforcement sources. told NBC News – the American partner of Sky News.

He was found on Saturday, one day after his 76th birthday.

US news site TMZ reported that police were treating his death as if it had occurred from natural causes.

On Friday, Simmons shared a message on social media thanking fans for their birthday wishes: “Thank you… I’ve never gotten so many messages about my birthday in my life! I’m sitting here writing emails. Have a wonderful rest of your Friday. With love, Ricardo.”

Simmons was an instructor and motivator for more than 40 years before leaving the public eye.

Earlier this year, she revealed in a series of social media posts that she had been diagnosed with skin cancer.

Known for his characteristic enthusiasm and humor, Simmons was one of the pioneers in the world of fitness.

He starred in 65 fitness videos, which sold more than 20 million copies according to his website.

He also had his own television show, The Richard Simmons Show, which aired for four years and received several Emmy Awards.

Earlier this year Simmons spoke out against a biopic about his life starring actor and comedian Pauly Shore as Simmons.

“I just found out, like everyone else, that the beautiful Richard Simmons has passed away. I hope you are at peace and shining in heaven,” Shore tweeted.

“You are one of a kind, Richard. An incredible life. An incredible story. They tore up the dolphin shorts when they made you. Rest in peace, my friend. Rest in peace.”
