‘No place in America for this kind of sick violence,’ says Biden after Trump rally shooting | US News

President Biden has said there is “no place in America for this type of violence” after an apparent assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

“It’s sick. Sick,” he said at a news conference in Delaware. after the attack on Trump’s event in Pennsylvania.

The US Secret Service confirmed that a suspected gunman fired “multiple shots” from an “elevated position outside the demonstration site.”

They said the gunman had been “neutralized” and was now dead. The agency also confirmed that one spectator was killed and two others were seriously injured.

“We cannot let this happen,” President Biden said.

He thanked the Secret Service and added: “Everyone must condemn him.”

Biden said he had tried to contact Trump after the shooting.

“I tried to contact Donald; he’s with his doctors. He seems fine.”

“I hope to talk to him tonight.”

The US Secret Service said Trump was now “safe” and had put protective measures in place around him.

He also said an investigation had been launched and he was treating it as an attempted murder.

Trump said a bullet had gone through the top of his ear.

“I knew immediately that something was wrong because I heard a whirring sound, gunshots and immediately felt the bullet go through the skin,” he said on his Truth Social platform.

“A lot of bleeding occurred, then I realized what was happening.

“I want to thank the United States Secret Service and all law enforcement agencies for their quick response.

“Most importantly, I want to express my deepest condolences to the family of the person who died in the demonstration, and also to the family of another person who was seriously injured.

“It is incredible that an act like this can take place in our country.”

Trump’s campaign said he was “fine” after the incident.

“President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act,” spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement.

“He is fine and is being examined at a local medical center. More details will be provided later.”

The incident unfolded while the former president was giving a speech at a rally in Pennsylvania. Suddenly, he seemed to fall to the ground clutching his ear.

He was quickly surrounded by armed security and remained on the ground for about a minute. Shouts from the audience echoed as the scene unfolded.

Trump then stood up, raised his fist in the air and yelled “fight,” before being carried off the stage and into a vehicle.

He was quickly expelled from the place. The video appeared to show blood coming from his ear as he left the stage.
