Federal investigators have tentatively identified the man who shot Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.

He is a man, in his 20s, and from Pennsylvania, according to several law enforcement officials in the United States.

The Secret Service said he had been “neutralized” and was now dead.

A second video, taken at ground level by a member of the public, shows a man dressed in camouflage-style clothing lying on the roof.

A person behind the camera says, “You can see the guy there. I think he got hit. The guy… looks dead.”

Sky News has analyzed the location and social media images and the distance between Trump and the person on the roof is approximately 150 meters.

Sky US correspondent Martha Kelner said: “If these images are what they appear to be – if this is a dead shooter on top of that building 150 meters from the protest site… if that’s the shooter who fired the bullets that led to After the incident inside the rally site, questions will be asked about where the Secret Service perimeter ended.”

Witness describes shooting

A statement from the US Secret Service said: “During former President Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on the afternoon of July 13, at approximately 6:15 p.m., a suspected shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside the rally venue.

“US Secret Service personnel neutralized the shooter, who is now deceased. The US Secret Service responded quickly with protective measures and the former president is safe and being evaluated.

National security analyst Frank Figliuzzi told NBC that “the full panoply of the FBI will be involved,” including high-tech crime scene analysis.

But he explained that “more immediately, all of this shooter’s social media and computer devices, all of the interviews of his co-workers, family, neighbors, all of that.”

He said: “The whole story of his life will be pieced together quite quickly and the aim here will be to see if anyone else is involved, is this part of a larger conspiracy? Could anything have been done to prevent this or intervene?”

“They’ll be looking at your gun, where it came from, was it purchased legally or not? Were you ever trained as a sniper, in any profession you ever had? And of course, what was your motive?”

Figliuzzi added: “I warn people… don’t jump to conclusions. We don’t know where this shooter was really coming from mentally. And that’s where the FBI is going to go.”

“One of the first things they have to rule out is terrorism. They have to rule out that this is not part of an international terrorism plot. So there will be a lot of things on the FBI’s agenda in the coming days and weeks.”

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas confirmed that his agency and the Secret Service are working with law enforcement partners to investigate the shooting.

He said they are “taking every step possible” to ensure the safety of President Biden, former President Trump and their campaigns.

“Maintaining the security of presidential candidates and their campaign events is one of our department’s most vital priorities,” he said.
