South Florida’s heat warning has expanded north into Palm Beach County, with “warm” temperatures expected through Sunday night, and will remain hot through Thursday, the National Weather Service said.

The meteorological service also asked for safety to Colombian and Argentine fans who will attend the Copa América final on Sunday, at 8 pm, at the Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami Gardens. “Be aware of the weather, it’s better to be safe than offside (sic),” the NWS posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, adding a football emoji.

“It looks like the temperature is already in the 100s as of 10 a.m.,” the weather service posted on X, formerly Twitter, on Sunday morning.

The heat warning for the tri-county area, which also includes mainland Monroe County, lasts until 6pm Sunday and warns that temperatures “look” like they could reach peaks of up to 110 degrees. Highs are around 91 degrees.

The risk of rain in Broward and Palm Beach is about 30% through Sunday night, with heat indexes of 108 degrees in Fort Lauderdale, 109 in West Palm Beach and 110 near Palm Beach Gardens. The weather service said overnight temperatures in both counties will drop to the low 80s, offering slight relief from the heat.

However, the scorching heat of the last two months will recover once again throughout this week and remain that way. Similar heat above 100 will continue on Monday, and showers and thunderstorms are likely in the afternoon, with a 60% chance of rain in Broward. In Palm Beach, the chance of rain is 40%.

The heat index in Broward and Palm Beach is expected to remain in the triple digits at least through Thursday afternoon, the weather service said. In these conditions, anyone outside should wear light or loose clothing, a hat, sunscreen, an umbrella for shade, and stay hydrated.
