Trump’s rally was held at the Butler Farm Grounds, which can accommodate tens of thousands of people.

There were 8 to 10 metal detectors on site, according to former USUN ambassador Kip Tom.

Tom told CNN that anyone within a certain distance of the president was required to go through these metal detectors.

Despite being held at an open fairgrounds, the rally was fenced, meaning a perimeter was set up.

Secret Service countersnipers were stationed in the area to monitor the perimeter.

CNN also reported that the Secret Service shot and killed the alleged shooter.

The FBI took over the broader investigation of the shooting, working closely with the Secret Service.

Melania Trump also issued a powerful statement on Sunday morning, hoping to humanize the presidential candidate.

“When I saw that violent bullet hit my husband, Donald, I realized that my life, and Barron’s life, was on the verge of devastating change,” she wrote.

“A monster who recognized my husband as an inhuman political machine tried to express Donald’s passion – his laughter, ingenuity, love of music and inspiration.

“The central facets of my husband’s life – his human side – were buried beneath the political machine. Donald, the generous and caring man I’ve been with through the best of times and the worst of times.

“For those of you who cry in support, I thank you. I commend those of you who have reached across the political divide – thank you for remembering that every politician is a man or woman with a loving family,” she concluded.

Friends, family, celebrities, business moguls and other world leaders have reacted to the horrific shooting.
