Donald Trump, although he did not fully appreciate it at the time, with adrenaline coursing through his veins, created a historic image of defiance just seconds after being repeatedly attacked.

He stood, his right ear and cheek bloodied, disheveled and shoeless, and raised his fist toward the sky, eliciting shouts of “USA, USA” from his followers.

Even in terrible circumstances, the former president demonstrated why he is considered the ultimate political performance artist. He is an image for all ages.

In the 24 hours after the shooting, the team Triumph insists the show will go on. The venue for this resilience tour will be the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Trump rally victim ‘died a hero’

In his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote that he was delaying his trip to the Republican National Committee, but decided he couldn’t “allow” a “shooter” or “potential killer” to disrupt his plans.

Even before the weekend assassination attempt, the Republican National Committee was a big deal. It happens once every four years and is where the party will confirm Donald Trump as its nominee and Trump will announce his pick for vice president from a presumptive short list of three candidates; North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, Ohio Senator JD Vance and Florida Senator Marco Rubio.

The convention, which will be held at Fiserv Forum, home of the Milwaukee Bucks basketball team, is now being held under drastically different circumstances. Some speakers have been told not to alter their speeches because organizers do not want them to be repetitive and want to avoid Saturday’s shooting being the sole focus.

Trump’s motorcade arrived at his hotel in Milwaukee early Sunday afternoon. The entrance to the hotel was guarded by police instructing guests to pass through airport-style scanners, and the lobby was packed with Secret Service agents, local police and Homeland Security investigations agents.

A history of American presidential assassinations

A black curtain was drawn at a back entrance to the hotel, obscuring the view of other guests, and Donald Trump was whisked from his motorcade to an elevator and straight to his suite. It was a departure from his usual arrival at these types of events, where he normally greeted his followers in the lobby.

How a tree may have hidden Trump’s shooter from view

A short time later his son Eric arrived, but he remained silent when reporters asked him how his father was doing.

Two party delegates who were having a drink in the Trump hotel bar told me they had been “extremely distressed” watching events unfold at the Pennsylvania rally.

“I felt horrified, disgusted and disgusted,” said one woman. “I regularly attend Trump rallies and feel very safe. I would probably go again, but I want the Secret Service to start using drones to identify any threats.”

Secret Service police said they had not adjusted their security plans in Milwaukee in light of the shooting and that there would be no changes to the security perimeter. But it was palpable that there was more anxiety among law enforcement officers on the ground.

Donald Trump will be closely monitored throughout the week and will not access the site through public entrances. He is expected to appear at the convention on Monday and give a speech Thursday night.

The theme of Wednesday’s proceedings at the RNC is “Make America Strong Again.”

The Trump campaign calls Joe Biden “the weakest commander in chief in the history of our country.”

That image of Donald Trump, raising his fist and shouting “fight, fight, fight” will only serve to help them convey their strongman image.
