A 75-year-old man who was missing for four days was found alive in a swamp.
Michael Altmaier was found lying in an area of muddy terrain in Maine’s Mount Blue State Park on Friday afternoon, having last been seen on July 8.
It is believed that the man had fallen down an embankment, became disoriented and ended up in the swamp area, where he finally fell and was unable to get up, the Maine The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife said.
According to National Geographic, a peat bog is a wetland area of soft, spongy soil that consists primarily of partially decomposed plant matter known as peat.
Altmaier had not been seen since last Monday, when he drove to the town of Weld to attend a meeting, but never arrived.
His car was later discovered by park staff and the Maine Warden Service launched a search on July 12.

A paramedic and search volunteers were able to administer first aid after locating Mr Altmaier before a service helicopter landed in the area and transported him to a local hospital.
Emergency service personnel said Altmaier was “in surprisingly good condition despite having spent the last four days lying in the swamp area,” the fish and wildlife department said.
