An American country singer has apologized and admitted she was drunk when she performed an out-of-tune version of the national anthem.

Ingrid Andress’s performance at a baseball game was widely criticized, drawing gasps from the crowd after a particularly shaky high note.

He was opening the show at Monday’s Home Run Derby in Arlington. Texasand it didn’t take long for people to express their surprise on social media.

“I’m so sorry, I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I think I’ve ever heard in my entire life,” Sports Illustrated writer Alex Carr said on X.

“When your mom lied to you and said you were a great singer,” said one featured comment on YouTube.

The 32-year-old was quick to apologize, posting on Instagram: “I’m not going to lie to you, I was drunk last night. Today I’m checking myself into a facility to get the help I need.

“That wasn’t me last night. I apologize to the MLB, to all the fans and to this country that I love so much for that performance. I’ll let you know what rehab is like, I hear it’s super fun.”

Andress has won four Grammy Awards and made her name writing songs for other artists, including Bebe Rexha’s Girl In The Mirror and Charli XCX’s Boys.

The Nashville native’s debut album was released in 2020 and the breakout single More Hearts Than Mine peaked at No. 30 on the US charts.
