Roswell city officials had a brief encounter with the wrong kind of movie magic after finding a prop that scared them on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Roswell police, a Public Works employee was working in a neighborhood off Old Alabama Road and came across what appeared to be a bomb.

The employee “did exactly what we would expect someone to do in this situation and immediately called the police,” cops said.

When police and the K-9 explosive ordnance team responded to the scene, they “quickly determined that the item was a movie prop, discarded in the trash by a resident who works in the film industry.”

The prop was dismantled before being thrown away to avoid further confusion, defusing the potentially scary situation.

Police said that while the support incident was fortunately a false alarm, it also illustrates the importance of the “see something, say something” principle and urges residents to avoid delay and call the department if they see anything suspicious.
