Florida’s governor displayed a strange tendency to stick out his tongue while speaking at the Republican National Convention, sparking attention on social media.

Ron DeSantis appeared to make the strange tongue movement 13 times during his speech Tuesday at the RNC in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, according to a video compilation created by The Daily Show.

Video of DeSantis’ speech was posted on X and recorded each time his tongue seemed to come out of his mouth.

The governor continuously licked his lips as his speech continued.

Ron DeSantis’ distinct facial movements have been compared to those of Senator Marco Rubio, who suffered a particularly memorable case of dry mouth in 2013.

When delivering the Republican response to the president Barack Obamain state of the Union speech, he caught the media’s attention as he repeatedly wiped his mouth and licked his lips.

DeSantis’ peculiar tongue movements drew ridicule from X.

“The licks of a man who has just seen his politics future stop your ad-Vance”, a user he wrotereferring to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s selection of Senator J.D. Vance as his vice presidential nominee.

Other users, however, seemed less critical of his habit.

“Give him a break. He gets nervous and his upper palette gets dry while he talks to the audience,” read another comment.

This isn’t the first time DeSantis has been criticized for his unusual tongue activity.

The habit took hold media attention late last year during a joint TV interview with Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds on NBC News.

One person gave DeSantis the name “snake’s tongue” about social media after the interview aired.

DeSantis has been governor of Florida since 2019, winning the race with the help of an endorsement from former President Donald Trump.

Since then, however, DeSantis’ relationship with Trump has not been smooth.

Trump told Republicans in Iowa “take no chances with DeSantis” during his presidency race late last year and Florida’s governor dropped out of the race in January.

DeSantis has since supported Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

However, Trump appeared to snub the Florida governor by selecting J.D. Vance as his running mate — and potential future vice president — instead of DeSantis on Monday.

DONALD TRUMP’S FULL STATEMENT ON VP’S CHOICE

After long deliberation and reflection, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the office of Vice President of the United States is Senator JD Vance of the Great State of Ohio.

JD honorably served our country in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and graduated from Yale Law School, where he was editor of The Yale Law Journal and president of the Yale Law Veterans Association.

JD’s book, “Elegia caipira”, became a huge bestseller and film, as he defended the working men and women of our country.

JD has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, he will be heavily focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota and far beyond ….

The RNC ran all week and ends tomorrow, July 18th.

In addition to DeSantis’ bizarre tongue movements, Trump’s movements first appearance after Saturday’s assassination attempt captured worldwide media attention at the RNC.

He was photographed with one ear bandaged while greeted crowds at the RNC on Monday.

Appearing only 48 hours after being shot, Trump was greeted with cheers and applause at the convention.
