COSTCO announcing the sale of Krispy Kreme donut boxes left fans more upset than excited.
The new deal was criticized by shoppers who noted the exorbitant price the grocer was asking for a box of 15 donuts.
A Costco shopper posted a photo on Reddit of a table full of boxes from the beloved brand selling for $19.89 each.
The news left the comments section divided.
“Yes. Perfect. A whole box to… uh… share… with family,” one Redditor joked.
“I want to take this and eat them all at once,” a second person commented.
Other people pointed out that the amount of money the brand sold them for was ridiculous.
“$20 for 15 donuts is crazy. I can get a dozen donuts, three dozen donuts and two coffees for $20 locally,” a customer pointed outside.
“$20???!!! Hard pass,” a second Redditor he said.
“Who is buying this for $20,” a third user asked.
For those looking to save a little money, purchasing a box of donuts at Costco would save consumers a little more than half of what it would cost to pick it up at the retailer.
Other people were also quick to point out that selling the donuts elsewhere goes against the purpose of the band’s promise of fresh treats.
“I never understood buying Krispy Kreme anywhere other than their store. If they’re not hot, they’re pretty average TBH,” a Redditor commented.
The announcement of the apparently expensive donuts comes as several Costco insiders question the store’s price fluctuations.
The discussion began when a Reddit user explained that he lives next to Costco and goes there practically daily.
“I cannot decipher the logic behind such changes in product shelves and price fluctuations,” they wrote on Costco subreddit.
“Do people work there after the store closes or before it opens to the public? It seems like magic to me.”
Costco Membership Sharing Guidelines
Costco has strict rules for subscription usage that shoppers must follow and has been cracking down on violators in recent years.
- Core Member Usage: Only the primary cardholder can use this Costco membership card. It is not allowed to share it for purchases, as the photo on the card must correspond to the person using it.
- Domestic Card: Each Prime Member can add one free Household Cardholder who lives at the same address. That person will receive their own membership card and can shop at Costco independently.
- Guest Policy: Members can bring up to two guests per Costco visit. However, only the member can make purchases. Guests must be accompanied by a member.
- Authorized cardholder: For an additional fee, you can add an authorized cardholder, such as a family member or friend, who does not reside at your address. They will receive their own card and will be able to make purchases independently.

The question generated a lot of mixed responses.
“Almost every store in the world has people working when the store is not open to the public,” one person wrote.
Others claimed to be Costco employees and explained the ins and outs of the layout change.
Morning shift employees are given a list of items that must be moved to the end of the aisles, said a person claiming to be an employee.
“[They are moved] Whether it’s because they’re on sale, the seller has offered money to display the item in a high-traffic location, or it’s simply because of a holiday or event that makes sense to highlight an item,” they wrote.
They said sometimes teams switch entire departments, especially in the seasonal section of the store.
Items can be moved for a variety of reasons, including the arrival of a new item, the change of season, or the end of a promotion.
