July 17 – JAMESTOWN – Benefit accounts have been created on GoFundMe to help families who were involved in a crash on Monday, July 15, about 7 miles east of Jamestown.
Two boys died after an SUV ran off Interstate 94 and into mud at Exit 248. The 1997 Chevrolet Suburban landed on its side in the water after Stachia Lawson, 30, Cleveland, North Dakota, lost control after a semi passed for her, according to a news release from the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Family members identified the children killed in the crash as brothers Kamari Lawson, 10, and Logan Lawson, 7, WDAY reported. Their bodies were found underwater about 25 feet from where the SUV they were in landed. The water in the swamp was 2.7 meters deep due to recent rains.
Seven children were in the car, aged between 5 and 11. Four children, ages 5, 6, 9 and 11, were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, the patrol said.
Lawson and five children were out of the water or getting out when first responders arrived, WDAY reported.
