The three major U.S. airlines have requested a global ground stop on all flights, according to ABC news.

They called on the Federal Aviation Administration to take this substantial step in the wake of widespread national and international problems.

The FAA currently has instructed airlines to remain airborne while keeping others on the runway.

This major problem didn’t just affect large airlines, as small carriers were also affected.

Allegiant Air also suspended its flights this morning.

Passengers complained of long delays following Friday’s incident.

Social media views were flooded with stories and communications from passengers across the carrier’s network.

Some pilots said they were told by their pilots and crew that their aircraft should be grounded until the systems came back online.

Passengers also complained about hours-long delays at airports.

A flyer said they had to wait an hour at the track due to a technical problem.

“@AmericanAir loves it when you just want to get home and sit on the tarmac for an hour only to be told that all American Airlines systems are down,” one person wrote on Twitter. X.

“I’m not sure it’s possible to fly the airline without some sort of disruption.”

These airlines have called on the Federal Aviation Administration to take this substantial step, but the administration is currently informing pilots in the air that the carriers have been experiencing communication problems.

San Francisco International Airport was also widely hit, as all flights were suspended, according to the CBS affiliate. KPIX.

American Airlines wasn’t the only airline to face major travel disruptions this week.

Frontier, Allegiant Air and SunCountry suffered from significant disruption from Microsoft.

These airlines suspended all their flights for several hours on Wednesday as the grounding was lifted later that evening.

“Our systems are currently being impacted by a Microsoft outage, which is also impacting other companies,” Frontier said in a statement on its website.

“We appreciate your patience.”
