As President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race by endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris, voters pointed out that one TV show appears to be predicting the historic election — and it’s not The Simpsons.

On Sunday afternoon, Biden suddenly announced that he would withdraw the presidential election after weeks of pressure within the Democratic Party.

He reflected on his presidency and how he intended to seek re-election.

“And while it was my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to resign and focus exclusively on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term,” Biden said. .

Shortly thereafter, in a separate post to X, Biden endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee to replace him on the ticket in November.

It didn’t take long for voters to find a connection between Harris’ shot at the White House and the similar career path of fictional character Selena Meyer from the comedy show VEEP.

VEEP, which aired on HBO from 2012 to 2019, follows Meyer — played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus — around Washington as she serves as the first female vice president after a failed presidential bid.

At the end of the second season, Meyer reveals to her team that her former running mate, President Stuart Hughes, would no longer be running for re-election, setting her up to be the first female president.

Fans of the show shared the clip on X, pointing out the similarities between the fictional situation and the sudden change in the Democratic ticket.

“This show. It’s always this show,” a user he wrote.

“Veep is a reality show.. because Selina Meyer IS Kamala Harris,” another he said.

“It’s AMAZING how similar Kamala’s journey is becoming to Selina’s on VEEP,” a third added.

Several stated that VEEP appeared to be predicting the future in a similar way to The Simpsons, which is famous for seemingly predicting future events.

“This is Dems Simpsons,” a user he said.

“Other than The Simpsons, no show predicted real-life events like Veep,” wrote another.

“What has happened in politics in the last 8 years is crazy and we saw it happen first on TV. Crazy.”

Full statement from Vice President Kamala Harris as Biden drops out of 2024 race and endorses her

“On behalf of the American people, I thank Joe Biden for his extraordinary leadership as President of the United States and for his decades of service to our country. His remarkable legacy of accomplishments is unparalleled in modern American history, surpassing the legacy of many two-term presidents.

“It is a great honor to serve as your vice president and I am deeply grateful to President Dr. Biden and the entire Biden family. I first met President Biden through his son Beau. We were friends from the time we worked together as attorneys general in our home states. As we worked together, Beau told me stories about his father. The kind of father – and the kind of man – he was. And the qualities that Beau revered in his father are the same qualities, the same values that I have seen every day in Joe’s leadership as president: his honesty and integrity. His big heart and commitment to his faith and his family. And his love for our country and the American people.

“With this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done throughout his life of service: putting the American people and our country above all else.

“I am honored to have the president’s endorsement and my intention is to deserve and win this nomination. Over the past year, I’ve traveled across the country, talking to Americans about the clear choice in this important election. And that is what I will continue to do in the coming days and weeks. I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party – and unite our nation – to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.

“We have 107 days until election day. Together, we will fight. And together we will win.”

Despite the comparisons between Harris’ character and Louis-Dreyfus, the VEEP creators aren’t entirely convinced that the two are similar.

Earlier this month, showrunner David Mandel told Vanity Fair that there are comparisons to be made for all political candidates around the world, not just those who are women.

“I understand that people all over the Internet are dying to somehow tell the narrative that Kamala is Selina,” Mandel said.

“I personally choose not to accept this. It’s very simplistic and I don’t think they’re doing it in a fun way.

“I think they’re doing this to try to somehow make her seem inferior, and I don’t like that.”

Harris has confirmed that she intends to seek the Democratic nomination for president in the coming weeks.

In a statement, the vice president said she was “honored” to receive Biden’s support as he steps away from the race.

“With this selfless and patriotic act, President Biden is doing what he has done throughout his life of service: putting the American people and our country above all else,” Harris said.

“I am honored to have the president’s endorsement and my intention is to deserve and win this nomination.

“Over the past year, I have traveled across the country, talking to Americans about the clear choice in these important elections. And that is what I will continue to do in the coming days and weeks.

She continued: “I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party – and unite our nation – to defeat Donald Trump and his extreme Project 2025 agenda.”

The Democratic Party is scheduled to formally elect a candidate during the Democratic National Convention in Chicago starting August 19.
