Vice President Kamala Harris has been quickly consolidating support for her presidential bid, with seemingly all of her top potential rivals for the nomination rallying around her less than 24 hours after President Joe Biden announced he would withdraw.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer formally endorsed Harris in statements Monday morning, joining a long list of other Democrats known for harboring national ambitions who have spoken out in favor of Harris on Sunday, including California Gov. Gavin Newsom and the transportation secretary. Pete Buttigieg.

And moderate Sen. Joe Manchin, IW. Va., announced that he would not seek the nomination, which he had been considering just a day earlier.

It is now unclear whether anyone will challenge Harris for the Democratic nomination before next month’s convention in Chicago, let alone whether they will pose a real threat to her.

Declarations of support for Harris have come from seemingly every corner of the sprawling Democratic coalition, with no obvious pockets of opposition thus far emerging.

State delegations to the Democratic National Convention backed Harris en masse after holding emergency meetings and internal votes hours after Biden withdrew.

Harris’s nomination now seems so certain that Democrats have begun speculating about who her running mate could be.

The behind-the-scenes jockeying for second place began almost immediately, with potential candidates eager to do whatever they could to show their support for Harris.

The vice president is expected to make her first comments since Biden dropped out, and she declared her intention to run on Monday morning.
