Kamala Harris has embraced the social media trend of a “snotty summer” in her presidential campaign.

A “brat summer” is inspired by the pop star Charli XCXBrat’s new album, which was released on June 7.

And the presumptive Democratic presidential candidate has already flooded her campaign’s social media account with references to the issue.

The latest US election: Pollster predicts Harris will get a “big bounce”

It comes after the British singer-songwriter, whose real name is Charlotte Emma Aitchison, endorsed her to be the next Democratic presidential candidate in the early hours of Monday morning, writing in a post on X: “kamala IS a brat.”

That post, as of this writing, has 46.5 million views.

But what exactly is ‘brat’ and ‘brat summer’?

Brat is the name of Charli

The album was received positively by critics and is the highest-rated album of 2024 so far, according to review website Metacritic, debuting at number two on the UK chart and number three on the US Billboard 200. .

Similar works of art have now flooded the Kamala HQ campaign account.

The singer has described the term brat as representative of someone who might have “a pack of cigarettes, a Bic lighter, and a strappy white blouse with no bra.”

She explained on social media how she’s like the “girl who’s a little messy and likes to party and maybe sometimes says some dumb things,” she said.

Charli brat. You’re a brat.

In other words, it’s an aesthetic characterized by a carefree mentality and a party girl aesthetic.

Some entertainment critics and journalists have said it is a rejection of the “clean girl” aesthetic on TikTok, which is based on ideals of groomed femininity.

Why did Harris adopt this?

In addition to Charli

Abigail De Kosnik, an associate professor at the Berkeley Center for New Media at the University of California, Berkeley, told Sky News’ US partner NBC that Harris is “connected” to popular culture in a way that other Democratic candidates are not. I have been able to do it in the past.

He called the tactic a refreshing change for voters who often view Democrats as boring or old-fashioned.

“The brat is like the unexpected leader, the unexpected winner,” Mrs. Kosnik said.

This is demonstrated by many followers of the vice president who are already making fandom edits of her on songs from the album, including 360 and Von Dutch.

A fandom edit is a very short film, sometimes 30 seconds, that uses careful selection of dialogue, music, videos and images to show appreciation for certain people and characters.

An example was given by American student Ryan Long, who went viral after posting a mix of Von Dutch with clips of Ms Harris on July 3.

“I’ve never seen people so excited about a candidate,” Long, who described himself as an enthusiastic, longtime Harris supporter, told NBC.

“People were pessimistic about Joe Biden, but now there is a lot of enthusiasm for Kamala. I really hope she can capitalize on it and win a landslide victory.”

Ms Harris has also previously been celebrated by celebrities such as Beyonce and Cardi B, with American pop star Kesha also remixing the politician’s laugh with the intro to the 2011 song Blow.

Ms. Harris’s appeal to some social media users appears to be working as according to data from Betfair Exchange Your odds are improving – helped by the endorsement of Joe Biden.

However, he still faces a significant challenge in overcoming the Republican candidate. donald trump.

What’s up with the viral coconut tree comments?

Another reason Harris’ campaign appears to have gained momentum online is due to some comments she made at a White House event in 2023.
