RESIDENTS of Kamala Harris’ ancestral Indian village are now praying for her victory in the final race for the White House.

Local residents were seen holding special prayer ceremonies for the current US Vice President, who is now one step closer to securing the Democratic Party’s nomination for the presidential election.

Residents of Painganadu-Thulasendrapuram, the village where Harris’s grandfather came from, performed pooja – a sacred Indian ceremony seeking God’s blessings.

The images show local residents dressed in traditional attire offering prayers to Hindu gods and goddesses.

It is understood that the prayer ceremonies will continue until the Democratic Party formally announces Harris as the official presidential candidate for the November election.

A resident of the village told local media, “We are very happy that Kamala Harris, the granddaughter of PV Gopalan, is likely to be the US presidential candidate.

“We offer prayers to the mighty deity of the temple.”

Large festival-like celebrations also took place in 2021, when Harris became US Vice President alongside Biden.

Calendars with the faces of Biden and Harris were distributed throughout the village.

Fireworks were lit and the entire village was decorated with lights.

Harris was born to an Indian mother and a Jamaican father, who immigrated to the United States to study.

She first visited her ancestral village when she was five – and took walks with her grandfather on the beach in Chennai.

Excited locals now hope to see Kamala take over the Oval Office after she is approved as a candidate for the Democratic Party ticket.

Biden endorsed Harris as the next Democratic candidate after dropping out of the election race.

The 81-year-old president made his stunning announcement in a letter posted to X on Sunday, revealing he would not seek re-election in November.

He wrote: “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president.

“And while it was my intention to seek re-election, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to step down and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”

Harris is now one step closer to becoming the new Democratic nominee after raising a record amount for her party.

She raised more than $81 million in donations in just 24 hours.

She will also inherit about $91 million in remaining campaign funds donated to her joint ticket with Biden.

Several of her potential rivals and the influential former speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, also supported Harris.

Pelosi, a key party mediator, broke her silence to support Harris on Monday.

She said she had “boundless optimism for the future of our country” under the Harris administration and described her as a “champion for working families” and abortion rights.

Governors Gavin Newsom and Gretchen Whitmer, whose names would be on the list of potential presidential candidates, also endorsed Harris’ campaign.

A survey of delegates by the Associated Press found that Harris has the support of at least 2,214 Democratic delegates, more than the 1,976 she would need in the first round of voting at the party convention next month.

The AP poll is just one indication that it has the support of enough delegates.

What happens next?

JOE Biden has finally heeded calls to abandon his re-election bid, throwing the 2024 election into chaos.

He supported Vice President Kamala Harris, but nominating a new Democratic candidate will not be a simple process.

Here’s what’s next after Biden’s stunning announcement.

Biden secured nearly 4,000 delegates by winning the state caucuses and primaries earlier this year. He was supposed to be officially named the Democratic nominee in a virtual vote before the Democratic National Convention, which begins on August 19.

Democratic Party rules do not allow Biden to simply pass his 3,896 delegates to Harris or another candidate.

Harris will now have to convince the nearly 4,000 delegates and 700 superdelegates to support her and nominate her candidate.

However, delegates are free agents who can choose to support any candidate they want – likely without voter input at this stage, since the primaries and caucuses have already been held.

All eyes are now on the previously planned virtual vote – where the Democratic Party could choose a candidate before the DNC begins.

Biden’s support for Harris will likely sway delegates, and no one has publicly challenged her as a candidate — but delegates are not required to support her. Even if virtual voting is not held, the party could still choose Harris or another candidate before the convention.

If Democrats do not nominate their candidate before the DNC, it will be the first open and contested convention since 1968.
