SENATOR Mike Lee was duped by a fake letter falsely announcing the death of former President Jimmy Carter.

The Utah senator reposted the hoax on his official account Tuesday afternoon, despite obvious warning signs that the message was fake.

Lee shared a since-deleted message remembering Carter, who is alive and hospitalized at age 99.

“Former President Jimmy Carter has died,” Lee falsely wrote.

“My thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

However, there were obvious warning signs that the letter was a social media joke — including a line calling Carter’s late wife, Rosalynn, a “villain.”
