‘I could have avoided that disease;’ Health leaders urge parents to vaccinate children

With back to school approaching, state health leaders are encouraging parents to vaccinate their children.

Preventable viruses like measles and whooping cough have been on the rise in Ohio. News Center 7’s Xavier Hershovitz breaks down the biggest concerns state health leaders have LIVE on News Center 7 at 5 p.m.

“We continue to see tragic cases of many of these vaccine-preventable diseases emerging right here in Ohio,” said Dr. Burce Vanderhoff, director of the Ohio Department of Health.

State health leaders are worried about LODs falling ill this school year with potentially deadly illnesses.

“The reality is that this means a child will get very sick, a child will suffer, a child will end up with a lifelong disability or, unfortunately, in some cases, a child will die. And we could have prevented that disease,” said Dr. Vanderhoff.
