A government-contracted plane was reported missing Thursday night near the site of a wildfire in Oregon, authorities said.
The single-engine tanker was helping with the Falls Fire, employees posted Friday on the Facebook page dedicated to providing updates on various wildfires. The Falls Fire burned more than 140,000 acres and 55% were contained as of Friday afternoon.
“Search efforts began immediately and will resume today. The fire is located near Seneca, Oregon, in the Malheur National Forest,” authorities said,
Authorities did not say how many people were on the plane.
NBC affiliate KTVB of Boise, Idaho, reported that the plane disappeared just before 7 p.m. Thursday and that there was a pilot on board. The Oregon National Guard was sent to assist in the search, the news outlet reported.
