The Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority on Thursday approved $956,000 in tax incentives for Mizkan’s expansion in Owensboro, plus $1 million for building materials and building accessories.
The average wage, including benefits, for the 44 jobs expected to be created is $35.82 per hour.
• Unemployment is rising again in Kentucky.
The state reported that unemployment rates rose in 110 counties between June 2023 and June 2024 and fell in 10 counties.
Daviess recorded a rate of 5.1%, up from 4.6% in May and 4.7% the previous year.
Hancock was at 5.4% in June, up from 4.8% in May and 5% in June 2023.
McLean’s rate was 5.9% in June, up from 5.4% in May and June the previous year.
Muhlenberg recorded a rate of 7.5% in June, up from 7% in May and 6.8% the previous year.
And Ohio was at 6.6% in June, up from 6.2% in May and 5.8% a year ago.
Cumberland County had the lowest rate at 3.9%.
Martin County had the highest figure at 10.7%.
• Big Lots announced it will close dozens of stores this year.

None were in Kentucky or southern Indiana.
