His death was confirmed by local mosque Hounslow Jamia Masjid on social media in a statement that said: “Tragically, Brother Sajawal has passed away.

“Tariq Aziz’s son Sajawal was a brilliant 16-year-old boy and a very talented footballer from West London.

“We pray that Almighty Allah will forgive your sins and elevate your position in the eternal abode.

“We also pray that the family will be patient with this loss and reunite the family at Paradise Gardens.”

Johan Josarp, duty officer in the region of Sweden would have informed family and friends of the tragic News.

The mosque also announced that Sajawal’s family has now returned to the UK.

His mother, father and uncle flew to his bedside at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg after learning he was in a coma.

Ravleen Arora, a close family friend, created a GoFundMe to help raise Sajawal’s family’s costs.

His family and friends have spent the days since the accident lobbying for him to return to the UK.

An air ambulance was said to be on standby at the hospital waiting to take the teenager home.

The family has yet to comment on Sajawal’s death, but has been described as “numb” by Ravleen in recent days.

Ravleen, 20, whose brother Dilveer has been friends with Sajawal for 12 years, told The Sun that Sajawal’s team lost the match on Friday afternoon and went swimming to “cheer up” afterwards.

She claims pool staff allegedly told her there was “no CCTV” and “no lifeguards on duty” at the time of the tragic ordeal.

Sajawal was then “drowning for at least five minutes at the bottom of the well”.

Ravleen said: “It’s very strange… and it’s a mystery how no one has seen it.”

British teenager Michael Camino – who went to Sweden with a different person Football League – apparently pulled Sajawal out of the water.

The 16-year-old’s body was stable before his death, but doctors had no choice but to place him on life support due to brain failure.

The family friend said Swedish doctors wanted to take him off life support despite the family fighting to keep his chances alive.

Earlier this week, The Sun was told that Sajawal’s mother, father and younger sister are devastated.

Ravleen described her heartbroken mother as “kind of numb.”

“Like when you talk to her, all she does is cry. There is no other type of reaction from her,” she added.

Sajawal’s father, Tariq, has been “tireless” in his efforts to bring his son home and has not slept for days as he is constantly on the phone trying to get help.

The teen’s younger sister, Juwariyah, is “really trying to comfort her parents and give them hope.”

“But obviously she also knows the situation. She’s just trying to be strong for them,” Ravleen added.

The family were hopeful they would have the chance to say goodbye to the Brit at home, near his friends, rather than in Sweden.

Doctors warned that if he was airlifted, he would most likely die during the journey due to his poor health – leaving the family with a difficult dilemma.

The family even tried to obtain an injunction to bring him back to a hospital in the UK, but were told it would be “unethical” to take him away.

Sajawal was playing for one of 128 English teams sent to Sweden for this year’s Gothia Cup, which sees almost 2,000 teams from 80 countries compete.

Niklas Ehnfors, head of communications at Allingsås council, said the teenager was spotted and pulled from the water by Swedish players who were also in the pool, reports. Subway.

He added: “However, staff were called who were able to establish that he was lifeless – he was not breathing and had no pulse. CPR was initiated, and continued until paramedics arrived on scene.”

Tournament spokesperson Malin Fahlén said the team was “extremely concerned and saddened” by the events.

He said: “We will now try to focus all our resources to support and care in the best way.”

It is still unclear what led to the teenager’s drowning.

Police are investigating Friday’s incident at the pool, which was evacuated and closed over the weekend.

It is the second year in a row that a teenager has drowned in the same pool during the tournament in Sweden.
