A gold bikini-style outfit worn by Hollywood actress Carrie Fisher in the Star Wars film franchise has sold at auction for $175,000 (£136,000).

Fisher’s character, Princess Leia, famously donned the garment while chained to Jabba the Hutt’s throne in the 1983 film Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.

Crime boss Jabba captured Leia after she tried to rescue Han Solo, played by Harrison Ford.

Leia went on to strangle Jabba, a slug-like creature, with the chain that had been around his neck.

Meanwhile, a miniature of a Y-Wing starfighter, “flown” by Gold Leader, who assisted Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) on a mission to destroy the Death Star in 1977. Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, sold for $1.55 million (£1.21 million) after a bidding war.

The Y-Wing is one of two filming miniatures of the “hero” Y-Wing (meaning it was used in close-ups) built by the visual effects team at Industrial Light and Magic.

“It has never seen the light of day,” Heritage Auctions said in X.

The basic design came from Colin Cantwell, according to the auctioneer’s website.

It was based on a rough description by director George Lucas.

“Lucas felt the need to create different ways for the public to immediately know if a ship was ‘good’ or ‘bad,'” the website reads.

He added that the miniature measured 27.5″ x 14.5″ x 4.5″ and was made of “resin, vacuum-formed styrene, acrylic and metal components on an internal aluminum frame, with five mounting points, painted by experts and finished like an aged battle. spacecraft”.

Leia’s costume, which includes rings and hip bracelets, was called by Heritage Auctions “one of the most memorable costumes in film history.” It was in the same collection as the miniature and was sold in Dallas on Friday.

Fisher opened up about wearing the bikini in 2015, when she revealed that she asked Lucas about the outfit, which she said made her vulnerable to “occasional wardrobe malfunctions.”

But he also explained that he enjoyed using the chain to kill Jabba, saying, “They asked me if I wanted my double to kill him, but I wanted to.”

“I cut his neck with that chain. I really wanted to kill him,” he told the Daily Beast.
