AN INFLUENCER died after falling into a huge reservoir while filming a scene for his fans.
Diego Kaua Oliveira Santos20 years old, he fell into Lake Salto Grande, in the Brazilian state of Americana, and drowned.
The social media star, who has more than 128,000 followers on Instagram, fell into the reservoir on Tuesday.
His friends who were with him tried to save him, but he was dragged away, according to local media, and they called for help.
MC Diegun Md, as he was known to his fans, had promised to give his followers “something live” during his visit to the artificial lake.
The Brazilian Public Security Secretariat said: “Witnesses who were with the victim tried to save the young man, without success.
“They then called the Fire Department, who were unable to rescue the man alive.
“The report was registered as a suspicious death at the 4th DP of Americana, where an expert report was requested and investigations into what happened are ongoing.”
Civil Police said Diego was recording content for his social media pages when he died, local media reported.
Moments before drowning, the influencer shared a series of posts on his pages that showed him enjoying açaí and moments with friends.
He promised he would go “live” soon.
Diego’s brother took to his late brother’s Instagram profile several hours after the tragedy to thank fans for their support.
He said: “Good evening to all of you who were Diego fans. This is his brother speaking.
“Today we received the sad news that he fell into the river and did not return.
“After an hour or two they found the body… My brother is dead. He passed away. I have his cell phone. I wanted to thank you very much for the support you always gave him.”
The desperate brother described Diego as “a person who always motivated me to be like him, to seek success, not to be discouraged, to pursue my dream”.
He added: “My brother has been very, very, very supportive of me in this life, and I’m sure he’s in a good place.”
The influencer’s funeral was held at Parque das Palm trees Cemetery on Thursday, April 18th.
Diego was known for his work as a singer and songwriter.
He shared videos of his songwriting on his Instagram page which, along with photos of himself – in recording studios, in cars and shopping – and with friends and family, attracted many fans online.
