Taylor Swift has revealed that her latest release is a “secret double album” – with 15 more tracks than fans expected.

In a surprise 2am (around 7am UK time), the 34-year-old announced on social media that Department of Tortured Poets: The Anthology includes a second installment.

She wrote: “It’s a 2am surprise: The Tortured Poets Department is a secret DOUBLE album. I’ve written a lot of tortured poetry over the last 2 years and wanted to share it all with you, so here is the second part of TTPD: The Anthology. 15 extra songs. And now the story is no longer mine… it’s all yours.

It’s the superstar’s 11th studio album and features 31 songs spread over more than two hours.

Fast announced disc details in February of this year, when he won the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for Midnights.

At the time, she revealed that the new album includes collaborations with Post Malone and Florence + The Machine, which appear respectively on the tracks Fortnight and Florida!!!.

Fast is believed to have included songs about her breakup with British actor Joe Alwyn and 1975 star Matty Healy on the album, while a song full of American football references was inspired by her latest romance with NFL star Travis Kelce.

The 15th track, The Alchemy, appears to be a tribute to his relationship with the Kansas City Chiefs star, with references to American football terms including team, heated seats, winning streak and trophy, and also features the line: “So , when I land, call the amateurs and eliminate them from the team.”

She started dating the athlete last year and her participation in the Super Bowl made headlines around the world, including that kiss with Kelce after the Chiefs’ win.

Kelce, who recently landed a role as host of the game show Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity?, said he’s heard parts of the album and says it’s “unbelievable.”

So Long, London is fifth on the tracklist – the space reserved for the most significant song from each of Swift’s albums – and is believed to offer new insight into her split with The Favorite actor Alwyn after six years together.

In the lyrics, Swift gives hints about wedding plans, singing: “You swore you loved me, but where were the clues, I died at the altar waiting for the proof” – as well as being upset about having to leave London, which she said ” loved”.

The album title itself may be referring to a WhatsApp group Alwyn previously created with fellow actors Andrew Scott and Paul Mescal called The Tortured Man Club.

Regarding Healy – who Swift dated for a few weeks last year following her split from Alwyn – several songs appear to reference him, including on Guilty As Sin, where she sings about having “fatal fantasies” about someone from her past while in a relationship.

Writing songs about old flames is nothing new for Swift, including Joe Jonas (Mr Perfectly Fine), Harry Styles (Style), Jake Gyllenhaal (All Too Well) and John Mayer (Dear John).

The singer posted the meaning of the album on X while a flood of fans commented on their love for it.

Swift wrote: “The Department of Tortured Poets. An anthology of new works that reflect events, opinions, and feelings of a fleeting, fatalistic moment—a moment that was at once sensational and sad in equal measure.

“This period of the author’s life is over, the chapter has been closed and boarded up. There is nothing to avenge, there are no scores to settle once the wounds have healed. And upon further reflection, a good number of them turned out to be self-inflicted.”

“This writer firmly believes that our tears become sacred in the form of ink on a page. Once we tell our saddest story, we can let go of it. And then all that’s left is tortured poetry.”
