Four youths were detained and released after a major closure of the Clark County Fair Friday night.

As reported Friday on News Center 7 at 11, deputies and fair officials decided to close the fair around 8:45 p.m., more than an hour before the set end time, after a fight broke out near the larger rides.
As deputies began to break up the fight, three or four more fights broke out, Clark County Sheriff’s Office Detective Brian Melchi told News Center 7 on Friday.
On Sunday, Maj. Mike Young said four young males were detained and released to their parents as soon as they arrived at the fairgrounds.
“The conduct of a handful of youths or young adults has created panic among some and, unfortunately, provided entertainment for others,” he said. “The safety of everyone at the fair was our priority and, unfortunately, some people had other plans when they showed up.”

Young said investigators were examining videos of the fight.
He told News Center 7 on Saturday that some videos showed a gun in the fight.
“Examination of some of the footage, along with bystander video, reveals that a weapon was dropped from one of the participants in this fight,” Young told News Center 7.
The identity of the person who dropped it, described only as a man, is unknown at this time.
Fair officials applauded the sheriff’s office’s response to the fight.
“They did exactly what they were supposed to do, nobody was hurt tonight, there were no shots fired tonight… something that was starting to get out of control was worked around and shut down,” said Dean Blair, executive director of the Agricultural Society of the United States. Clark County.
The incident remains under investigation.
