US Vice President Kamala Harris is now the only candidate seeking the presidential nomination, after a deadline passed without anyone else qualifying.
About 99% of delegates signed Mrs. Harris nomination petition, according to the Democratic National Committee.
She cements her position as the Democratic favorite for the Nov. 5 election after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race.
“Our party has met this unprecedented moment with a transparent, democratic and orderly process to unite behind a candidate with a proven track record who will guide us in the fight ahead,” Democratic National Committee Chairman Jaime Harrison said in a statement. .
It comes as her campaign announced that Harris will hold her first rally with her new vice presidential candidate on Tuesday, August 6, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
He will embark on a four-day battlefield tour that will include Michigan and Arizona.
The location of the first rally suggests that Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro could be at the top of his list of running mates.
Other candidates include Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly of Arizona, Kentucky Gov. Tim Walz and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.
