MADISON – Democratic US Senator. Tammy Baldwin raised $2.5 million for his re-election bid between July 1 and 24, his campaign told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Baldwin has raised $28 million since launching his campaign for a third Senate term, the campaign said.
“I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for our campaign in recent weeks,” Baldwin said in a statement. “With so much at stake, I am determined to defend our fundamental freedoms and find solutions to the kitchen table problems that matter most to our families.”
During the July pre-primary period, according to the campaign, Baldwin received contributions from more than 9,000 Wisconsinites, with an average online donation of $34.67. Contributions throughout the campaign cycle came from every county in the state, with teachers and healthcare professionals being the most represented professions.
Baldwin faces a challenge from Republican businessman Eric Hovde.
With less than 100 days until the Nov. 5 election, Wisconsin remains a key state for both parties — especially after a change in the Democratic ticket that effectively elevated Vice President Kamala Harris as the party’s nominee.
Baldwin, who declined to say whether Democratic President Joe Biden should remain in the race, told reporters at a campaign event in Stoughton the day he dropped out of the race that his decision was “the patriotic thing he should do.” and said she would support Harris.
“I have seen her, day in and day out, hold powerful organizations and powerful individuals accountable in her role on the Senate Judiciary Committee,” Baldwin said at the event in Stoughton, where she was joined by Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts. “And I saw her as vice president. She’s prepared and I’m very proud to support her.”
Biden “promised to be a bridge to the next generation” and “we’re crossing that bridge right now,” Baldwin said.
“And I think we’re going to see a lot of unity, a lot of emotion, a lot of people inspired by this moment,” Baldwin said. “And certainly, as I mentioned, I have heard a lot of concerns from Wisconsinites, especially Democrats.
Harris last week delivered her opening argument against a second presidential term for Donald Trump in West Allis, outside Milwaukee, in this swing state where elections are decided by razor-thin margins. Harris’ rally came just days after the conclusion of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where Trump formally accepted the party’s nomination and brought Ohio Senator J.D. Vance onto the ticket as his running mate, all after being shot in the ear days earlier, during an assassination attempt at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania.
“With President Trump’s track record of success and a backlog of common-sense Wisconsin Republicans like Eric Hovde on the ballot this November, Kamala and her dangerously liberal policies don’t stand a chance,” the Committee spokesperson said.
