The Gershkovich family joined the president Biden at the the White House when commenting on detainees released in Russia.

Biden said he spoke to the detainees and told them, “Welcome, almost home.”

The president confirmed that he did not talk to Putin about the prison exchange, which he justified as bringing “innocent people home”.

President Biden met with Evan’s family, including his parents, Ella and Mikhail, and his sister, Danielle, at the White House around 10:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the Wall Street Journal.

News Corp, the parent company of the Wall Street Journal, has also strongly called for Evan’s release since he was first arrested last year.
