Ohio unemployment claims declined last week

Initial claims for unemployment benefits in Ohio fell last week compared to the previous week, the U.S. Department of Labor reported Thursday.

New claims for unemployment benefits, an indicator of layoffs, fell to 7,614 in the week ended July 20, down from 9,117 the previous week, the Labor Department said.

U.S. unemployment claims fell to 235,000 last week, a drop of 10,000 claims from the previous week’s 245,000 on a seasonally adjusted basis.

Texas saw the largest percentage increase in weekly claims, with claims increasing 24.9%. Meanwhile, Kansas saw the largest percentage drop in new claims, with claims falling 68.7%.
