UKRAINE has destroyed one of Vladimir Putin’s prized submarines in the Black Sea in a stunning attack on occupied Crimea.
Kiev’s forces said the prized £275 million Kilo-class Rostov-on-Don submarine was hit in an attack off the port of Sevastopol.
Ukraine’s attack on Friday also “significantly damaged” four of Putin’s ultra-modern S-400 air defense systems – worth a total of around £2 billion.
Kiev said Friday’s attack targeted four vital launches of the Russian “Triumf” air defense system.
The Rostov Kilo-class submarine – used to fire Caliber-class missiles at Ukraine – was hit in September 2023 but was later repaired.
Dramatic images showed the hole opened in its side last year.
He was scheduled to return to duty when Ukraine carried out its deadly attack.
Ukrainian forces used a deadly US-made ATACMS missile for the attack.
He is known for his impressive attack on Russian naval targets amid Putin’s illegal war in Ukraine.
“The Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked a submarine and the enemy’s S-400 air defense system in temporarily occupied Crimea,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said.
“According to confirmed information, yesterday [Friday] missile troops, in cooperation with the Ukrainian Navy, significantly damaged four launchers of the S-400 “Triumf” air defense system.
“Also, in the port of Sevastopol, the Rostov-on-Don submarine of the Black Sea Fleet was successfully hit.
“As a result of the attack, the submarine sank on the spot.”
