The Augusta Commission in Georgia voted unanimously to transform an abandoned park into a small residential community.

The village will be placed in an empty urban park called Central Park, which has existed since 1953.

Once the community is established, it will allow young adults who were previously in foster care to live in the village rent-free, according to The Chronicles of Augusta.

The nonprofit Bridge Builder Communities was able to purchase the 3.08-acre park for $1 in February.

Each individual home will be about 320 square feet.

The tiny homes will be fully furnished and residents will be able to take whatever they need with them when they leave.

Once it’s up and running, there will also be a resident manager in the new neighborhood and security.

To maintain residency in the community, members must be between the ages of 18 and 25, have a job or be in school.

The small home village has created much controversy since its approval.

News from the small home village prompted local residents like Michael Thurman to create a petition against the rezoning.

Around 33 people from the neighborhood signed the document in hopes of keeping the park as it is.

I built a little mansion on wheels – it has a loft, 17 windows and was listed for $70,000 but comes with an additional fee

Thurman said he understood the park had been empty for some time: “But when it’s gone, it’s gone,” he told commissioners.

He proposed that the community be moved to other locations.

“We just need to realize it can be done. And we can help these children without taking away this park that has been used for generations,” she said.

Joe Gambill, president of Bridge Builder Communities, believes the small residential community will fit well into the area.

“When you look at our building density, when you add up all the square footage of the building, we are only using about 6% of the land for buildings,” Gambill said.

“We are maintaining a residential vibe in this neighborhood. We’re not going to go in and build an apartment complex.

NEW HOME VILLAS

Small residential villages are popping up all over the country and they are completely free.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar is building a small village for veterans in Binghamton, New York.

Construction of the new community will be completed by 2025 and will include a Veterans Resource Center.

“The idea of our Veterans Resource Center is we want a one-stop shop for all of our local veterans,” Garner told the local CBS/CW affiliate. WBNG.

“We want to be able to bring all of our veteran service agencies under one roof and then have programming support for veterans and do everything we can to help our local veterans here in Broome County.”

The tiny homes will be placed on a 1.6-acre lot that will include 10 units and the resource center.

The Low-Income Housing Institute, or LIHI, also opened a small home village in Washington state.

The new homes aim to help low-income or homeless people in the Seattle area get back on their feet.

The community plans to house 40 people to provide immediate shelter and community.

The property is completely fenced with 43 fully detached houses measuring 2.5 by 3.6 meters.

It will include offices for case managers, a communal kitchen, restrooms and laundry facilities.
