Dramatic footage shows the car skidding recklessly around the corner.
The Porsche then goes out of control and tries to brake to avoid a group of spectators standing on the side of the road.
But the tape separating people from the road was not enough to protect them, as the car crashed into the crowd, knocking down several adults and children.
A red car near the people was also destroyed in the accident before the Porsche stopped.
Miraculously, no one died in the accident.
But authorities later said two children were injured along with an adult.
Unconfirmed local reports said none of the victims’ injuries were fatal – despite the speed of the car and the violent impact on bystanders.
But the older of the two youngsters is believed to have suffered a horrific broken arm and leg.
Adults present at the event could be seen comforting children as they watched the scene unfold.
The Porsche 911 GT3 was being driven by a man known locally as Américo Gouveia.
The accident occurred at the Rali Vinho Madeira – the most prestigious and historic automobile event on the Atlantic island.
Organizers of the rally said in a statement: “The victims were assessed at the scene before being taken to the hospital, which was placed on alert to receive them as a precaution.
“As soon as we have more information, it will be released.”
Two years ago, a young woman tragically died at the 2022 race, after being attacked while running to see her sister at the same rally.
Local reports said she mistakenly believed the last vehicle had already passed when she decided to race to the rally circuit in Madeira. Portugal.
She was rushed to hospital after the accident, but died shortly after arriving at Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça, in the island’s capital, Funchal.
The tragedy occurred during the 63rd edition of the Rali Vinho Madeira.
TV footage showed the moment the car that hit the girl stopped amid a cloud of white smoke.
Shocked bystanders rushed to the crash site to help, even though footage of the collision itself was pixelated.
The girl was treated by paramedics at the scene.
Witnesses said the older girl and another young man thought to be a friend had just crossed the street without incident when the eight-year-old girl tried to cross the same road and was run over.
One said: “I’m sure she didn’t see the car coming. It was going really fast.”
In a statement, rally organizers said: “We regrettably confirm that the young woman involved in an accident was unable to survive the injuries she suffered.
“At this painful time, we would like to send our condolences to his family and friends.”
The President of Portugal Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa said: “I send my condolences to the family and friends who are grieving.”
The Rally Vinho Madeira brings thousands of spectators to the roads to watch drivers compete across the island’s rugged terrain and natural landscapes.
It is traditionally held in late summer, in August or late July. The first edition took place in 1959.
