A representative of the Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance finally answered the question on everyone’s mind: is he using guyliner?
Photos of the 40-year-old senator show fiery cerulean eyes that seem to pop out of his face in a way few people can do naturally. Previous comment speculated that perhaps he was born with it. One expert suggested Slate that the shape of his eyelids made the effect especially pronounced.
According to this week’s report from Disc Newsthe consensus in Washington was indeed that Vance’s lash line had not been cosmetically improved, although a longtime connection thought he was actually wearing eyeliner.
Finally, Puck’s fashion correspondent investigating the matter got a definitive and official answer.
“They are all natural,” his wife, Usha Vance, he wrote in a statement to the vehicle. “I’ve always been jealous of those eyelashes.”
The millennial senator’s eyelashes drew praise from another prominent admirer: the former president donald trump. Amid the debate over whether the former president could accept a bearded running mate, The Bulwark reported that “Trump has repeatedly commented favorably on her ‘beautiful’ blue eyes and long eyelashes.”
Trump, who is known for judging people by their appearance, publicly praised Vance’s appearance days before selecting him as his running mate.
“He looks like a young Abraham Lincoln,” Trump said.
The comment about Vance’s eyelashes came amid other personal comments Vanceworld has given reporters in recent days and appears to fit into a new strategy to soften his image after a rocky launch.
During a podcast appearance with the Nelk Boys last week, Vance discussed how he’s too old to accept any more invitations to Las Vegas, the strange vice presidential vetting process he and his wife have experienced, and how he told his son to “Shut up for 30 seconds about Pikachu,” when Trump called to offer him a spot on the Republican ticket.
He even talked to Traffic light about a childhood love of the card game Magic: The Gathering, saying: “The big problem with transitioning from a 13-year-old kid who likes Magic: The Gathering to a 15-year-old kid who likes Magic: The Gathering is that 15-year-old girls don’t like Magic: The Gathering.”
