Pools and water parks in the KC area opening for the season. See when you can swim

Memorial Day weekend is here, and that marks the opening of Kansas City’s many pools and splash pads.

New this year and opening this weekend are Blue Surf Baya Blue Springs water park that took more than four years to complete and features a 40-foot-tall waterslide, and Sar-Ko-Par Aquatic CenterLenexa’s $15 million renovation of the former Indian Trails Aquatic Center.

Here’s when local pools and splash pads open in the Kansas City area, how much they cost and their daily hours.

Kansas City Swimming Pools

Kansas City’s two water parks, Bay Water Park It is Springs Aquatic Centerwill be open in the summer from Saturday to September 2nd.

Bay Water Park, 7101 Longview Road, will be open from noon to 8 p.m. each day until school starts. After classes start, the aquatic center will only open on weekends. Admission is $6 for children under 48 inches tall, $8 for everyone 48 inches or taller, and $7 for seniors.

The Springs Aquatic Center, 9400 N. Congress Ave., will be open daily from noon to 8 p.m. After classes begin, the aquatic center will only be open on weekends. Admission is $8 for children under 48 inches tall, $11 for visitors 48 inches or taller, and $9 for seniors.

Kansas City has nine splash pads open from 11am to 7pm every day: Blue Valley Park, Douglas Park, Gillham Park, Harmony Park, Longview Tract, Lykins Square, Parade Park, Spring Valley Park and Sunnyside Park.

Johnson County Swimming Pools

O Fairway city ​​pool, 6136 Mission Road, is open Saturday through September 2.

Pool hours change while it is open for the season:

  • Opening day until August 12th: noon to 8pm daily, except Wednesdays when it closes at 7pm

  • August 13th to September 2nd: 4pm to 8pm on Fridays and noon to 8pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

Admission is $6 for Fairway residents and $9 for nonresidents; children up to 2 years old are free.

O Leawood Aquatic Center, 10601 Lee Blvd., opens Saturday for summer. Daily admission is $7 for Leawood residents and $10 for non-residents.

Every pool in Olathe opens Memorial Day weekend. Black Bob Bay14570 W. 151st St., opens on Saturday and will be open daily from 12:30pm to 7pm, while the rest open on Monday:

  • Border Pool15909 W. 127th St.: Open daily from 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Mill Creek Pool320 E. Poplar St.: Open 12:30pm to 5pm, Monday through Friday, and 12:30pm to 7pm, Saturday and Sunday.

  • Oregon Trail Pool1750 W. Dennis Ave.: Open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 12:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday through Sunday.

Admission is $10 for residents, $12 for non-residents, $5 for seniors, and children 2 and under are free.

All other pools open on Memorial Day, which is Monday, May 27th.

Every outdoor pool in Overland Park opens Sunday:

  • Tomahawk Ridge Aquatic Center: 11950 Lowell Ave.

  • Stonegate Pool: 9701 Antioch Road

  • Bluejacket Pool: 10101 Bond St.

  • Youth Pool: 8421 W. 77th St.

Admission to all four pools is $8 and they are open daily from noon to 7 p.m.

The city’s splash pads – Roe Park, Sapling Grove Park and Thompson Park – are also open.

Prairie VillageThe pool, 7711 Delmar Ave., opens Saturday and will be open through Sept. 4.

The pool is open from noon to 8pm every day until August 4th. Pool hours change to 2pm to 8pm, Monday to Friday, August 5th to 12th, and weekend hours remain the same. Hours are reduced to 4:30pm to 8pm during the week of August 14th to September. 4, and weekend hours remain the same.

Daily admission is $10 for residents and non-residents. Residents can purchase summer passes for $60 and non-residents can purchase passes starting at $90..

Shawneein Splash Cove at Jim Allen Aquatic Center5800 King Ave., opens on Saturday and will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 12:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.

O Thomas A. Soetaert Aquatic Center, 13805 Johnson Drive, opens Thursday. The pool will be open from 12:30pm to 8pm on weekdays and from 12:30pm to 6pm on weekends.

Admission to each pool is $6 for residents and $10 for non-residents. Children under 1 year old pay half price.

Jackson County

Blue FontsBlue Surf Bay Water Park, 425 NE Mock Ave. opens Friday. The outdoor pool is open from noon to 6pm Monday to Friday and from noon to 7pm on Saturdays and Sundays during the summer.

The indoor pool opening hours are:

A day pass costs $9 for residents and $18 for non-residents.

Independencein Adventure Oasis Water Park, 2100 S. Hub Driveopens Saturday.

The water park will be open from noon to 7pm, Monday to Friday, from 11am to 8pm on Saturdays and Sundays and from 11am to 6pm on holidays.

It costs US$10 for residents and US$15 for non-residents.

Summit Waves, 120 SW Blue Parkwayopens Saturday in Lee Summit for the summer season until August 18th.

The pool will be open from noon to 7pm Monday to Friday and from 11am to 7pm on weekends and holidays.

Admission for residents is $11, non-residents are $15 and children 3 and under are free. Tickets must be purchased online.

The city’s three splash pads — Howard Park, Lea McKeighan Park and Miller J. Fields Park — are open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.

Big visionindoor pool, The View Community Center13500 Byars Road, is open year-round.

The city’s splash pads at The View and John Anderson Park will be open from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

The View splash pad is open from 10am to 7:30pm Monday to Friday, 10am to 7pm on Saturdays and 10:30am to 5pm on Sundays. The splash pad at John Anderson Park is open from 10am to 7:30pm each day.

Outside temperatures must be 75 degrees for the water park to open.

Clay County

GladstoneThe outdoor pool at the hotel, 7011 N. Holmes in Central Park, opens for the season on Saturday

The pool is open from noon to 7pm on weekdays and from noon to 8pm on weekends. Admission is US$10 and children under 3 are free.

O Freedom Community CenterThe Memorial Day outdoor pool opens Labor Day weekend. The center’s two indoor pools are also open year-round.

Day passes to the community center, which include access to all four pools, cost $9.50 for youth, $12.50 for adults and $10.75 for seniors. The outdoor pool hours have not yet been announced.

Liberty’s two splash pads – Ruth Moore Park and City Park – open at the same time as the outdoor pool.

North Kansas CityThe splash pad at Dagg Park, 2000 Iron St., opens this weekend and will be open through Labor Day weekend. The splash pad is open from 10am to 8pm Tuesday to Sunday and 1pm to 8pm on Mondays.

Platte County

The outdoor swimming pool riverside Community Center, 4498 NW High Driveopens on Saturday and will remain open until August 18th. The season is shorter this year due to renovations beginning in the fall, which will expand the pool, renovate facilities and add other amenities, according to the City of Riverside.

The pool is open from noon to 7pm, Monday to Thursday, and from noon to 7:30pm, Friday to Sunday. Admission is $3 for visitors ages 12 and older, $2 for visitors ages 3 to 11, and free for children ages 2 and under.

Wyandotte County

O Bonner Springs Water Park, 1200 S. 134th St., opens Saturday. The pool is open from noon to 7pm until August 11th every day, with swimming before opening.

Admission is $6 per person and $3 for children 2 and under.

Parkwood Pool, 950 Quindaro Blvd. in Kansas City, Kansas, opens Saturday.

The pool will be open from noon to 7pm, Tuesday through Sunday this summer, and admission is $1.

The city’s three spray parks — Eisenhower Park, Pierson Park and Heathwood Park — are also open.
