TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — The Iranian naval destroyer sank while being repaired at a port near the Strait of Hormuz, state media reported Sunday.

State news agency IRNA reported that the destroyer Sahand, which was being repaired at a dock, lost its balance due to water seeping into its tanks.

The agency added that due to the shallow water depth, it is possible to rebalance the destroyer.

It also reported that injured people were transferred to the hospital. He gave no further details.

Sahand, named after a mountain in northern Iran, took six years to build and launched into the Persian Gulf in December 2018. The 1,300-ton ship was equipped with surface-to-surface and surface-to-air missiles, anti-aircraft batteries and sophisticated radar and radar evasion capabilities.

In January 2018, a naval destroyer, Damavand, sank in the Caspian Sea after colliding with a breakwater.
