With umbrellas in place, thousands of athletes and spectators who occupied the streets of Paris officially kicked off the event. 2024 Olympics on Friday.
The ambitious ceremony began with a giant cloud of blue, white and red smoke in the colors of the French national flag with the Parade of Nations from the Austerlitz bridge next to the Jardin des Plantes.

Athletes on board boats they traveled the course of the River Seine from east to west, catching a glimpse of several Olympic sites, including La Concorde Urban Park, the Invalides and the Grand Palais.
Giant jets of water gushed from the river as the Greek delegation – as always – was the first boat under the bridge and along the 6-kilometer (3.7-mile) route.
American singer Lady Gaga graced the audience with a performance on an improvised yellow staircase in the traditional style of old French subways.
About 220,000 spectators invited and screened by security filled the upper reaches of the banks of the Seine, and a further 104,000 paying spectators watched from the lower bank of the river and around Trocadéro square.
The parade ended at the Iena Bridge, which connects the Eiffel Tower, on the left bank of the Seine, to the Trocadéro neighborhood, on the right bank.
